$2 Million Match on #GivingTuesday

Calling all nonprofit organizations! Here’s an incredible fundraising opportunity to double your donations.

As we’ve discussed before on the Dowitcher blog, #GivingTuesday is a movement that empowers people to come together and support the issues, causes, or movements they believe in. Entering its sixth year, this global day of giving is fueled by the power of social media. This year, in celebration of #GivingTuesday (November 28, 2017), Facebook and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have partnered to support nationwide nonprofits. The latter will be matching funds raised for U.S. nonprofits through Facebook’s giving tools, up to $2 million! This is a great opportunity, not only because matching grants incentivize new or larger donations, but because you can use this time to kick off your end-of-year campaign.

The matching begins November 28th at 5 am (8 am EST) and goes until the $2 million mark is hit. Donations can be matched up to $50,000 per nonprofit with a maximum of $1,000 per donate button.

Facebook is also waiving all processing fees for every donation made on this day. Fees will be waived for the entirety of #GivingTuesday, even after the match runs out.

Never used Facebook’s fundraising tools? Facebook’s charitable giving tools enable nonprofits and supporters to raise money for causes directly on Facebook. Keep reading for tips for using Facebook this #GivingTuesday or visit Facebook’s resource page to get started.

Incorporate a donate button into a Facebook Page, post, or ad. A donate button is a direct way people can quickly donate without leaving the platform. If your organization uses live video, add a donate button to the video so that people watching can give as they watch, once the video is over, or posted on your Page.

#GivingTuesday is a perfect time to engage your online community and turn followers into donors – whether you are asking for time, money, goods, or their voice.

Enable people to fundraise for your nonprofit directly on Facebook on your behalf. Supporters can use a post or live video donate button to raise money for your cause. They can set up a page tell their stories, help spread awareness of your mission, and rally support around a fundraising goal.
